With multiple microphones and recording modes, H2n is suitable for almost any type of application. The H2n has not one, not two, but five built-in microphones. Two of these are arranged as X/Y pairs and the other three are configured in MS (“Midside”) patterns. They can be used individually for X/Y or MS stereo recording, or combined to create stunning 2 or 4 channel surround sound.
Mid-side recording is a great technique that allows you to actually adjust the width of the stereo image after recording while maintaining full mono compatibility, and is especially useful for film, video and television projects. The three mic elements of the H2n MS mic are placed directly on top of each other. One faces the front and the other two face the side.
The X/Y technique provides a great way to capture a central sound source with clarity and sharpness while still covering a large area, making it ideal for all types of live stereo recordings.
